Ellison Street in Castlebar has reopened to traffic but a section of footpath remains closed to pedestrians.

Mayo street reopens to traffic after being closed for over a week

Ellison Street in Castlebar has reopened to traffic after being closed for over a week.

Diversions were put in place on February 11 when the windscreen of a passing car was damaged after being struck by a heavy object which fell from the roof of a derelict building on the east side of the street.

However, pedestrians are still restricted to walking on one side of the street only.

The incident highlighted the need to address the problem of derelict buildings at the location.

A report on the matter is expected to be outlined at Wednesday's meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District.
