McIntyre appointed new Breaffy senior manager
by Aiden Henry
MARTIN McIntyre has been appointed the new Breaffy GAA Club senior team manager.
The Belmullet native replaces Peter Ford, who stepped down from the position at the end of last year.
Ford, who was manager of Breaffy for a number of years, just failed to land the Moclair Cup for the west Mayo club last year when they lost to Knockmore in the county final.
Now the Breaffy club have turned to Martin McIntyre, who will bring a lot of experience to the job.
McIntyre, now living in Breaffy, is very well known in Mayo GAA circles and has been involved with the county senior team for a long number of years.
He has extensive experience in strength and conditioning having worked with Mayo and Roscommon county teams.
This is not McIntyre’s first venture into management.
Along with working with the Mayo senior county team, he was manager of the Mayo Under 17 team in 2017.
Indeed, his vast experience with lots of different teams will be invaluable in his new role as Breaffy manager.
No doubt McIntyre’s appointment will see Breaffy as one of the favourites to win the county senior title this year.
While he hasn’t finalised his selectors yet, he has already secured the services of former Mayo senior footballer, Ballyhaunis native Fergal Kelly.
Kelly, along with Breaffy’s Jim O’Shea, were McIntyre’s selectors when he was manager of the county Under 17 team four years ago.
