No post-primary Gaelic games competitions this academic year

There will be no post-primary Gaelic games competitions this school year, Connacht GAA has decided.

A one-sentence update from Connacht GAA Council secretary John Prenty confirmed the decision today by email.

The update reads: “The Connacht GAA Post Primary Schools Committee has unfortunately had to make the decision to cancel all Post Primary Schools competitions for the remainder of the current school year due to the restrictions imposed by the current pandemic.”

The Covid-19 restrictions mean that training or games at any level is not possible until Easter, at the earliest.

The government's Covid 19: Resilience and Recovery 2021 plan, published earlier this week, makes no provision for on-field activity before that stage.

With many students not returning to school until after the Easter break, it would leave very little time for competitions to be completed before the end of the academic year.
