€3.6m. restoration of historic Mayo abbey on schedule for 2022 completion

PLANS for the restoration and reconstruction of the east wing of Ballintubber Abbey, to house a cultural and education centre, are progressing.

The project was awarded rural regeneration funding and Mayo County Council is working with architects at finalising contract documents, with a view to commencing phase one works mid-summer.

The expected completion date of this €3.6 million section of the project is next year.
