Lack of bin collection service cited as factor in dumping at remote Mayo locations

THE lack of bin collections in some areas has been highlighted at council level.

Councillor John O'Malley, speaking at a Westport – Belmullet Municipal District (MD) meeting, said some people were burning, burying or dumping rubbish as their area wasn't serviced by a refuse company.

Others did avail of the civic amenity site in Newport, but it was a long way to go for some.

They had to see if the situation could be rectified as they can't have a situation where rubbish is being dumped, he said.
