'Dome' structure for outdoor events proposed for Mayo tourist town

A COVERED area for markets and outdoor events has been proposed for Westport.

The possibility of a 'dome' type structure was raised by Councillor Hyland at a local district meeting, who said he was willing to allocate some of his GMA funding towards a project.

With an outdoor grant of €250,000 available to local authorities, Councillor Peter Flynn said outdoor facilities are going to be key for tourist towns.

Anything they could do to facilitate business, they should be doing and he asked for proposals to be brought before them.

And, he said, it would also be great to get an overview of open space available for use by businesses, such as on footpaths and in car parks.
