Sharp drop in positive Covid cases at Mayo University Hospital

The number of positive Covid cases in care at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) has dropped by 13 to 24 in the past 24 hours.

Two new confirmed cases were admitted to the Castlebar facility between 8 p.m. yesterday and 8 p.m. on March 3.

The latest HSE report from the facility was compiled at 8 p.m. yesterday.

MUH's virus figures are now the fifth highest in the country, the list still headed by the St. James's Hospital, Dublin, with 51, down by 11.

Galway University Hospital has 10 positive cases in care, down by two, while Sligo University Hospital has seven, up by two.

There are 11 suspected cases at the Castlebar centre, an increase of two, and two confirmed cases are in the facility's ICU, no change.

Nationally, the number of hospitalised confirmed cases now stands at 427, a decrease of 45.

The number of patients in intensive care units nationally is 103, a decrease of five.

There are two vacant general beds and four vacant critical care beds at MUH.

A total of 14 new confirmed cases were identified in Mayo by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday evening, bringing the total to 262 for the past two weeks.

It leaves the county with a 14-day incidence rate of 200.8 - above the national average of 190.2.
