Mayo woman launches campaign to increase vaccine supplies

A WEST-Mayo woman has launched a new positive idea on social media platforms to campaign for increased supply of Covid-19 vaccines to communities across the nation.

Aileen McDonnell from Cross, Killeen, Westport, is calling on people in every town and village in Ireland to beep their vehicles at 3 p.m. next Sunday (Mother's Day) to make Oireachtas members realise that people are crying out for their vaccine.

Aileen, who spearheaded a campaign last year to ensure greater public buy-in of social distancing guidelines, said she wants the Cabinet to negotiate with suppliers and the EU - and ‘to think outside the box by considering asking the UK for their vaccine surplus in the meantime’.

She stated: “The Irish government is working hard but it is tired. This past year has taken its toll on us all, but now is the time to act. I completely understand not everyone wants the vaccine - and each to their own.

"However, I want the voices of those in support of the vaccine to be heard next Sunday while we isolate ourselves safely in our vehicles, merely tooting our horns as an encouragement to our government to go the extra mile and beyond.”

Aileen has gone to the trouble of also highlighting the message on a nearby beach and lands.
