Funeral service for victim of Mayo hit and run collision

A Russian Orthodox Service takes place in Castlebar today for the 45-year-old man who died from injuries sustained in a hit and run collision in the town last Wednesday night.

Deniss Prosvirnevs, Spencer Street, Castlebar, and formerly of Liepaja, Latvia, is sadly missed by his loving family as well as his friends and colleagues in both Ireland and Latvia.

The service takes place at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, at 2.30 p.m. Farewell will be at 3 p.m.

Private cremation will follow and Deniss will then be repatriated to his native Latvia.

The deceased was a gifted construction worker and worked in many parts of Mayo.

Donations in his memory may be made to Candle of Grace Charity c/o Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar.

A man in his 30s who was arrested yesterday in relation to the fatal hit and run collision, which occurred close to the pedestrian crossing between Pavilion Road and the Curragh, Castlebar, last Wednesday night has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
