Passing of Canon Michael Joyce

THE death has taken place of Canon Michael Joyce, who served the communities of east Mayo for many years.

His passing was announced by Bishop Paul Dempsey of the Diocese of Achonry today.

Cannon Joyce had lived in Swinford since his retirement as Parish Priest of Bohola, and was a popular figure in the local community.

He taught for many years in St. Patrick’s College in Swinford and also St. Nathy’s College, Ballaghaderreen.

He also served as Parish Priest in the parishes of Curry, Swinford and Bohola and was a much loved, respected and spiritual pastor and priest.

Said the statement issued by the diocese: “He will be sadly missed by all with whom he had contact during his many years of faithful ministry in our diocese.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends, who will truly miss him.

“Please remember Canon Michael in your prayers.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
