Mayo success in Cheltenham opener

IT has been a good start for Mayo on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival

Appreciate It, owned by Achill native Michael Masterson, won the opening race of the festival, the Supreme Novices Hurdle, for trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Paul Townend.

The horse started off as a 5/6 favourite and earned its favourites tag in style, galloping home to win by 24 lengths.

Masterson's other horse, Kilcruit, is the 15/8 favourite in tomorrow's final race at 4.50, the Champion Bumper.
