Uncertainty in Covid battle lingers in Mayo despite low hospitalisation figures

The number of confirmed Covid cases in care at Mayo University Hospital (MUH) has not changed over the past 24 hours - staying at one.

No new confirmed cases were admitted to the Castlebar facility between 8 p.m. yesterday and 8 p.m. on March 31.

The latest HSE report from the facility was compiled at 8 p.m. yesterday.

MUH's virus figures are now the fourth lowest in the country.

Galway University Hospital has eight positive cases in care, no change, while Sligo University Hospital has eight, a drop of one.

There are two suspected case at the Castlebar centre, no change.

The ICU at Mayo University Hospital remains Covid-free.

Nationally, the number of hospitalised confirmed cases now stands at 255, a drop of 17.

The number of patients in intensive care units nationally is 61, down by three.

There are two vacant general beds and no vacant critical care beds today at MUH.

However, uncertainty remains in regards to the county's battle against the virus.

That's because 15 new confirmed cases were identified in Mayo by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday evening, leaving the county with a 14-day incidence rate of 85.8 - below the national average of 164.9.

There were 18 additional Covid deaths reported nationally yesterday and 761 new cases.
