Defacing of social distancing sign in Mayo park condemned

The defacing of a Mayo County Council sign promoting social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic has been condemned.

The incident occurred today beside the children's playground at the Town Park in Castlebar.

The words 'Fake Pandemic' were daubed in black paint across the sign.

Local Councillor Ger Deere said he was disappointed to learn of the incident - and condemned the act.

He told The Connaught Telegraph: "Everyone is entitled to their opinion and there are plenty of platforms on which to express them.

"But damaging public property is not the way to do so."
