Ballyhaunis chamber launch 'Save Our Bank' petition

BALLYHAUNIS Chamber of Commerce have launched a petition to keep the town's Bank of Ireland branch open.

Ballyhaunis is one of three branches in Mayo earmarked for closure next September, along with Charlestown and Kiltimagh.

Now, the local Chamber of Commerce have launched an online campaign on uplift.ie calling on the CEO and board of Bank of Ireland as well as the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, to reverse that decision.

The campaign pages sets out what it is important that the branch be retained: 'For Ballyhaunis and its community to progress we need our local Bank of Ireland branch operational; to be an open and fully functioning bank.

'The Ballyhaunis community have built and maintained this bank over the last century and are dependent on it for its future growth, which is crucial to the economic future of the region.

'We now call on the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, to now use his influence to have this decision reversed.'

The Chamber are urging people to sign the petition, spread the word on social media and anywhere they can get support.

The petition will be delivered directly to Minister Donohoe and by post to the CEO and board of Bank of Ireland.
