Mayo's highest populated electoral area has Covid incidence rate higher than national average

The Covid 14-day incidence rate in Mayo's highest population election area is significantly above the national average of 157.1.

During the two week period from March 23 to April 5, a total of 57 new confirmed cases were registered in the Castlebar district - giving it a rating of 190.1 per 100,000 of its population of 29,992.

The five other electoral areas in the county have ratings below the national average.

Claremorris, which recorded 31 new positive cases, has a rating of 114.2 for its population of 27,141.

Swinford had 12 additional confirmed cases, giving it a rating of 69.4 for its population of 17,286.

The next highest rating has been identified in Ballina which had 11 new cases, resulting in a rating of 43.8 for its population of 25,110.

Westport is next. It has a rating of 43.5 after registering eight new cases within its population area of 18,378.

The news remains good for Belmullet, with a population of 16,600.

It had less than five cases during the period in question, considered too low for a rating.
