Edward Francis Collins, whose death occurred yesterday (April 14), and his beloved wife Mary Bridget, who passed away on April 6. May their gentle souls rest in peace.

Mayo community in mourning over passing of husband and wife within days of one another

The death has occurred suddenly at his home of Edward Francis Collins, 2 Cherrington Place, Moneen, Castlebar, and formerly of Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

He was loving husband of the late Mary Bridget Collins (née Carolan), who died on April 6 last.

Edward served as an Army Medic in the United States Army and later as a painter and carpenter.

His favourite hobby was fishing and he spent many happy hours fishing in the many rivers and lakes in his adopted county of Mayo.

He will be sadly missed by his sorrowing daughters Heather and Christina and their partners Shane and Mark, his sons Eddy and Edzo, brother John, sisters Terry and Cindy, grandchildren Avery and Fia, brothers-in-law Paul, Ed, John and Hughie, sisters-in-law Michelle, Breege and Annie, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends especially his best friend Danny and family in the USA.

The deceased was son of the late Edby and Freda May (née Orne) and brother of the late Jackie and Kevin.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Removal will take place from his home on Saturday at 10.45 a.m., arriving at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Afterwards Edward will be laid to rest with his beloved Mary in the New Cemetery, , Castlebar.

Mary Bridget's funeral took place last Saturday.

Formerly of Bangor Erris, she was a daughter of the late Maggie (née Coyle) and Hugh Carolan.

Mary worked in Hollister, Ballina for a number of years. In more recent years she was a carer and a home help.

Deepest sympathy is tendered to the bereaved family on their loss.
