Mayo's Connacht championship defence will start against Sligo

Mayo will get the defence of their Connacht senior football championship title underway against Sligo.

The draw, conducted live on RTÉ this evening, saw Mayo picked first out of the bowl by Connacht GAA president John Murphy, who then picked out his native Sligo to pit the neighbouring counties against each other in the first round.

The winners of that Mayo v Sligo game will play Leitrim in the semi-final, while Roscommon take on Galway in the other last four encounter.

As with last year, the 2021 Connacht SFC will be played on a knockout basis. The championship season is due to get underway on June 26/27, with the Connacht final pencilled in for the weekend of July 24/25.

The exact dates, times and venues for the fixtures will be decided by the Connacht GAA Council in the coming weeks.

Inter-county GAA teams are permitted to return to training from today, with the National League competition getting underway on May 15/16.
