Ownership of Westport Courthouse acquired by Mayo County Council

Mayo County Council has acquired ownership of the vacant Westport Courthouse.

The news was announced on social media by the town's three county councillors - Peter Flynn, Christy Hyland and Brendan Mulroy.

The authority has also secured ownership of the adjoining courtyard.

Councillor Mulroy stated: "This is great news and the building will be put to use for some community based group in Westport in the future.

"Working together, myself, Christy Hyland and Peter Flynn worked hard to ensure this building was secured by the council.

"Great day for Westport all round."
