Mayo man Mark Byrne scored his first senior goal for Sligo Rovers in last night's victory over Bohemians.

Mayo men among the goals in Bit o' Red's latest victory

Mayo players enjoyed a great evening in Dalymount Park last night as Mark Byrne scored his first goal for Sligo Rovers and David Cawley sealed the victory against Bohemians.

The 3-1 result not only maintained Rovers' unbeaten start to the SSE Airtricity Premier League season, but enabled them to stay joint top alongside Shamrock Rovers and St. Patrick's Athletic.

Jordan Gibson opening the scoring for the Bit o' Red against Bohs after a great move from deep in their own half, while Byrne put them back in front after Liam Burt had equalised for the home side and Cawley sealed the deal late on with a cracking finish from the edge of the area (see below).

Both Mayo men were introduced to the action in the second half, Byrne coming on for Walter Figueira just shy of the hour mark and Cawley replacing Romeo Parks with a tad over 15 minutes remaining.

David Cawley's goal sealed Sligo Rovers' victory over Bohemians yesterday evening.

“It's a great result bearing in mind where we're at, but we're still trying to get it better,” said Rovers manager Liam Buckley following the game. “There is improvement in the group but we have a lot of good players, we're trying to keep them fit and get a rhythm in our game.

“In the second half against Finn Harps last week I thought we were far better. In fairness the pitch at Dalymount is great, but you have to get your shape quickly if you're going to have a passing game.

“I do want them to try and pass it – if you pass it you perform better, if you perform better you'll more than likely win matches.”
