Additional accommodation approved for Mayo school

THE Department of Education has sanctioned funding for additional accommodation at Davitt College in Castlebar, comprising four main classrooms, two classrooms and two WCs.

Welcoming the approval, Deputy Alan Dillon said: “It is fantastic to see numbers in Davitt College continue to grow year on year and this additional accommodation will be of enormous benefit to the students attending this school.

“It is very welcome news that additional infrastructure will be provided at post-primary level in Castlebar.”

Deputy Michael Ring commented: “I am sure these additional classrooms will be a very welcome boost to Davitt College, Castlebar, as it will assist the school in expanding capacity.”

This brings to seven the number of schools in Mayo to receive additional accommodation this year.

Last month, additional accommodation in the form of new classrooms and special education needs classrooms was approved for St. Tiernan’s in Crossmolina, Moyne College in Ballina, and Scoil Mhuire agus Padraig in Swinford, along with St. Brendan’s College, Belmullet, Scoil Iosa, Ballyhaunis, and Derrywash NS outside Castlebar.
