Passing of popular Mayo civil servant evokes immense sense of loss

The death has occurred at Mayo University Hospital of Bernadette Hallinan O’Callaghan (better known as Bernie), Tawnylaheen, Clydagh, Pontoon Road, Castlebar, and formerly of Borehallagh, Foxford.

She was dearly loved wife of Vincent (Vinny), adored mother of Rebecca and Saran and much loved sister of Mary O'Hora, Ann Donnellan, Letitia Hallinan, Joan Ruane, Margaret Sheerin, Emma Ryan, Frances Doherty and Sandra Hallinan, to whom sympathy is tendered.

She will also be greatly missed by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, work colleagues and many friends.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Bernie worked in the Department of Social Protection at Michael Davitt House, Castlebar, where she was held in very high regard.

She had previously worked in Community Services, St. Mary's Hospital, Castlebar, and, prior to this, she worked in London.

Her remains will repose at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Friday morning from 9.30 a.m.

Removal takes place at 10.45 a.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Afterwards Bernie will be laid to rest in the New Cemetery, Newport Road, Castlebar.
