Fundraising 999k walk in memory of young Castlebar man

A YOUNG Castlebar man is being remembered by friends and work colleagues with a special charity fundraiser.

The late Sean Tobin, who passed last October, gave dedicated service with Murray Ambulance Service, and his memory is being honoured through a 999k walk this month.

The GoFundMe campaign has been set up by his friends and colleagues who plan to walk, in teams, 999 kilometres over the month of May.

All funds raised will go to the oncology departments at Mayo University Hospital and Sligo University Hospital, with whom Sean worked regularly.

Séan was one of the first employees of Murray Ambulance Service and even when he became ill and after undergoing some difficult treatment, he began to work again as an emergency medical technician, which he was excellent at.

He had the gift of empathy and compassion and during his time Séan won the much coveted Driver of the Year Award at Murray Ambulance Service.

During his illness and by his very existence he taught all of his friends, colleagues and acquaintances how to deal with adversity.

The GoFundMe page honours his life and his commitment to helping others.
