Concern about deer crossing roads in east Mayo

RESIDENTS in two east Mayo localities have expressed concern about the appearance of deer, which are posing a hazard to traffic.

The issue at Adrigoole, off the N17, was raised by Councillor John Cribben at a local area meeting, and there is also an issue on the Balla side of Kiltimagh.

There is a nearby plantation at Adrigoole, which has matured and overgrown, and the deer are harbouring there, Councillor Cribben explained.

Twelve of the animals crossed in front of one motorist recently.

He asked that Mayo County Council erect warning signs to make people aware of their presence.

He also asked who is responsible if injury is caused.

The issue in the second area - Ballinamore, near Kiltimagh - was highlighted by Councillor John Caulfield.

Deer, he said, are coming down from the mountain and crossing the road. He too looked for warning signs in this area.
