THE progress of a celebration 'wall' at Elverys MacHale Park, Castlebar, to commemorate past successful teams, people and achievements is going from strength to strength

At last week's Mayo GAA County Board meeting, it was confirmed that current sales for the Laochra Mhaigh Eo wall have moved from €33,000 to €80,000.

Tiles have been bought by many Mayo diaspora across the world, with Connaught Council delegate Paul Cunnane revealing that a tile had even been sold in Saudi Arabia last week.

“It's great to see garnering traction worldwide,” said Mr. Cunnane.

The project, which re-launched on St. Patrick's Day, also has tax status in Ireland and the USA which allows any business owner the tax benefit from a donation.

Mayo GAA chairman Liam Mofatt said there was a very good response to the Laochra Mhaigh Eo programme series on Midwest Radio which helped promote the project and thanked presenter Michael D. McAndrew and all the guests who contributed to the programme.

Mr. Moffatt added that the securing of a Sports Capital Grant, allied to funds that will be raised from the Laochra Mhaigh Eo project, means the MacHale Park pitch re-surfacing project is well on its way. The resurfacing of MacHale Park is scheduled to begin in August.

Those interested in purchasing a wall tile can log onto the www.mayogaa.com/thewall, with a series of promotions also planned in the near future. Mr. Mofatt thanked everyone who has supported the project to date.
