Improvement works on Mayo's greenway

SUBSTANTIAL improvement works have been carried out on the Great Western Greenway.

They include a four-kilometre stretch from Rosturk, at the rear of Nevin's pub, to Mulranny, which has been resurfaced.

A lot of track improvements have also been approved onwards to Achill Island, Mayo County Council's tourism officer, Anna Connor, told councillors at a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting.

A tender has been published for a bridge on Achill Sound, and those are expected back on May 12.

Some works have also started between Achill Sound and Saulia. They had stopped due to Covid but it is planned to recommence works and discussions with land owners along the route.

Route options are also going to be looked at to bring the greenway down to Keel and Cloughmore in Achill.
