Patients advised to expect delays at Mayo emergency department

Patients have been advised to expect significant delays at the emergency department of Mayo University Hospital.

This is because existing IT systems are not in use - due to the cyber attack on the HSE's IT systems - and the manual workarounds in place are time-consuming

A spokesperson stated: "Where possible, bring your existing patient number or board number with you when you come to the hospital.

"You'll find this on appointment letters, test results, or blood tests."

All outpatient clinics at the centre are cancelled.

All diagnostics including x-ray, CT scans, MRI appointments and cardiac investigations are cancelled.

Endoscopy services are cancelled.

All elective inpatient and day case procedures are cancelled.

A small number of procedures may go ahead. The patients will be contacted directly.

Maternity services and dialysis treatment at the Castlebar facility are going ahead.

Patients have been advised to attend their chemotherapy appointment unless contacted and advised otherwise.
