Gino’s Gelato opens new store in Mayo

THIS month, Irish gelato company Gino’s Gelato opened the doors of its 20th store in Westport, and has its sights set on eight new locations across Ireland in the coming year.

Since the brand’s inception in 2008, Gino’s Gelato has grown to become one of the country’s most loved treats.

The 100% Irish owned company was founded by second generation ice-cream men Jonathan Kirwan and Anthony Murphy, and the number one priority was to always use the very best and freshest ingredients, keeping the gelato as authentic as possible to traditional methods.

This month, the pair are excited to launch their first Mayo store in Westport - the 20th store across the country - and they will open another store in Tramore, Co. Waterford, at the end of the month.

Despite more than a year under the difficult confines of a global pandemic, the pair have opened four new stores since June of last year with eight more in the works to open before the end of 2021.

Gino’s Gelato also hired 50 new staff in 2020 and will add an additional 140 to their workforce in 2021, bringing total staff numbers to over 400 by the end of the year.

Speaking about the latest store opening, MD and co-owner Anthony Murphy said: “We are delighted to bring Gino’s Gelato to Westport, our first store in Co. Mayo. While the past year has been challenging for many small businesses, including Gino’s, we feel we have adapted well and have our biggest plans yet in 2021, to bring the great taste of Gino’s to lots more people around Ireland.

“We are delighted to expand Gino’s Gelato footprint further into the West of Ireland in 2021. Westport is somewhere we have been planning to open a Gino’s store for some time and we are thrilled to now make the dream a reality and are getting fantastic local support and feedback so far.”

Gino’s Gelato, Westport, is open from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. everyday.
