Passing of former Westport councillor and pharmacist, J.P. Campbell

The death has taken place of J.P. Campbell, The Grove, Mill Street, Westport.

The deceased served as a Fine Gael member of the former Westport Urban Council for many years and was elected to the post of chairman on a number of occasions.

A pharmacist by profession, he gave outstanding service to the community over a long period.

Many tributes have been paid to him on social media since his passing was announced.

One stated: "A great member of the community, he was always there to help others and will be greatly missed."

Another said: "I always found J.P. to be a man full of life, engaging and good fun."

Others described him as 'one of life's gentlemen'.

He is sadly missed by his loving wife Frances, daughters Brenda (Campbell) and Sharon (O'Malley), sons-in-law Des (Moore) and Brendan (O'Malley), grandchildren Laoise, Ciara, Conor, Rachel, Andrew, Brian and Owen, brothers Thomas, Albert and Brendan, sisters Nuala and Angela, Brenda (Gibson), nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, carers and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Funeral Mass takes place tomorrow (Thursday) at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Westport, with burial afterwards in Cushlough Cemetery.
