Lucky ducklings rescued from Mayo car park

A BROOD of ducklings who got lost in Westport may have had their baby feathers ruffled by the experience but thankfully survived thanks to a local rescue team.

The ducklings were reported to Mayo Animal Welfare last evening after being spotted wandering around the Mill Street car park.

It appears that their mother, who was with them, got frightened and flew off. The ducklings then dispersed in different directions.

Thankfully, Mayo Animal Welfare reported on their social media how a group of quick thinking heroes from local businesses sprang into action and caught them.

Two unfortunately went down between a bike shed and a wall but more than an hour later, after pulling out all the foliage and huge amounts of rubbish, they managed to retrieve another of the scattered brood.

A decision was made to bring the seven lucky ducklings that were rescued to Mayo Animal Welfare. The car park itself was busy and also leads onto a busy shopping street, so any attempt to reunite them with mother was ruled out.

Mayo Animal Welfare shared these photos of the rescued brood and hailed the heroes (pictured below) who save them - three staff members from local store Pax, Anna, Tiffany and Jeanine, and Tiernan O'Rourke of This Must Be The Place.
