Support for outdoor seats and tables in county town

A CALL for outdoor seating/tables on Castlebar's Mall and the Market Square has received the full support of local councillors.

And they will come with extra bins in these areas.

The furniture, to assist local businesses in the coming months, was proposed by Councillor Ger Deere who tabled a motion at this week's Castlebar Municipal District meeting calling on the council to purchase or lease a number of outdoor seating/tables and for them to be placed on the Mall and on the plaza in Market Square over the summer period to accommodate the general public and assist businesses.

Councillor Deere impressed the urgency of having them installed as businesses reopen and people are encouraged to meet and socialise outside.

Other areas of the town that may be suitable were also asked to be looked at.

A number of coffee shops in Market Square, said Councillor Deere, can't put tables outside their premises.

Also, if you buy a sandwich down town, it would be nice to have somewhere to go and sit down.
