Mayo drive-in movies are cancelled for time being

Mayo Movie World has announced 'with huge regret' that it has to cancel its drive-in movies for the time being.

A statement by the Castlebar company outlined: "A decision was made (by the government) to remove drive-in cinema from recent legislation, meaning drive-in movies all over Ireland have been instructed to close.

"This is a crazy decision but we have no option to finish our drive-in movies for now.

"We want to thank everyone who supported us over the last few weeks, when we had to battle adverse weather conditions to bring you a safe, fun, family, entertaining movie experience all from the comfort of your car.

"We want to thank our staff who looked after you, checking you in at the gate, directing cars, preparing your popcorn, hot food and snacks and safely delivering it to your car, as you sat in the safety of your car.

"Thank you to Frankie Mc Donald for sound and back up and Michael and Paul for providing the screen every weekend.

"We had hoped to run the drive-in movies for another few weekends and to have to close now is so disappointing.

"We hope to offer the drive-in experience again next month."

There is confidence within the industry that cinemas will get the go-ahead to reopen from June 7 next.
