Cignal receives approval for two masts in east Mayo despite concerns

CIGNAL Infrastructure Ltd. have been granted planning permission for two telecommunications masts in east Mayo - one in the Swinford area and the second in Ballyhaunis.

The Ballyhaunis development, for a 24-metre multi user lattice tower in the Leo townland, was the subject of a number of local objections.

A 30-metre mast is also proposed at Culmore, Swinford, a plan to which Mayo County Council received no observations.

Submissions in relation to the Leo proposal pointed out that there is an existing mast a short distance away, with room there for service providers to put their equipment.

This mast was well camouflaged, but the new proposal was in a more obstructive spot.

Health concerns were also cited in some submissions made to planners.
