Call for urgent traffic calming measures to be implemented in Ballinrobe

An elected member of Mayo County Council has called on the authority to implement the traffic calming recommendations set out in the Ballinrobe town traffic management plan regarding the Kilmaine Road (N84), with particular emphasis on access and egress to Cill O Seighin, Tower View and the St. Vincent de Paul developments.

The plan recommended traffic calming in the form of a type C gateway on the Kilmaine side of Cill O Seighin and St. Vincent de Paul.

In response to his notice of motion, Councillor Damian Ryan was told a submission will be made to Transport Infrastructure Ireland through the road design office for funding in the region of €50,000 to implement the recommended gateway, which will include signage, build-outs, central island, line marking, pavement widening and a cycle by-pass lane.

He was supported by Councillor Michael Burke who said the road was dangerous and it's all down to speed.

The speed limit, he said, should be reviewed and extended further out the road.
