Progress on 53 derelict properties in one Mayo area

Fifty-three derelict properties in the Castlebar Municipal District are being looked at by Mayo County Council.

Three are at the initial stage, seven have been issued with a notice of intention to put them on the derelict site register, and 34 have been placed on the register.

One is at the stage where it has been valued and the owners advised of that before a derelict site levy is imposed.

Eight files have been closed where work has been carried out.

The council is looking at progressing two compulsory purchase orders at this point.

And 10 more properties are being valued to get them to levy stage.

The district office is working with the housing office at sites to have them converted to homes.
