LEADER funding for wheelchair accessible angling boat project

TWO projects in Mayo have been allocated €181,429 through the LEADER Programme.

Darragh McGee in Newport has been awarded a €135,429 grant to purpose build a wheelchair accessible boat for angling, tours, etc.

Mayo Communities Caring for Water, South West Mayo Development Company, have received an allocation to deliver a training programme to community/voluntary groups in Mayo on conserving and protecting water/water bodies to the tune of €46,000.

Welcoming the allocations, Deputy Michael Ring said: “I’m delighted that this funding is being provided through the LEADER Programme.

“I hope that the venture to provide fully wheelchair accessible angling is a huge success for the promoter. It is innovative and inclusive and I wish him every success.

“On the conservation project, this training programme is timely as we all recognise how important our water resources are.”
