First Mayo street closure to accommodate outdoor dining

Castlebar Municipal District has announced its intention to close Tucker Street in the county town in the evenings from 6 to 11 p.m. for the summer months.

The plan is to facilitate the business sector in providing outdoor dining.

This road closure will be advertised in the local media in the coming days, Iarla Moran, head of the district, confirmed.

Welcoming the news, Councillor Ger Deere said he facilitated a meeting with the Tucker Street business community to explore the closing off of the street in the evenings over the summer months.

"I welcome progress on this matter in view of the fact we are encouraged to have an outdoor summer and this will facilitate the food outlets and bars in this area.

"A workshop is going to be held next Friday to explore introducing similar plans in other areas around the town," he stated.

It is understood that Rush Street is one of these areas under consideration.
