Go-ahead for new fire services training facility at airport

A NEW fire services training facility is to be developed at Ireland West Airport.

A planning application seeking approval for the project submitted by Connaught Airport Development Company has been approved by Mayo County Council.

The development consists of a single storey part flat, part mono-pitched roofed fire service training facility. It will be accessed via the existing internal airport (airside) road network.

It includes associated vehicle parking, hard and soft landscaping and boundary treatments, and other associated ancillary site works.

The site adjoins an existing established training area that is used by the fire service for the development and maintaining of fire-fighting and emergency service skills.

The project is an important enhancement of the airport fire service, ensuring relevant skills within the service remain at a high level, planners were told in submissions.
