Mayo 'need to sort out a few things' ahead of championship starting - Horan

Mayo manager James Horan has conceded that much work remains to be done within his squad ahead of the Connaught SFC starting within the next two weeks.

Speaking after yesterday's win over Clare to seal promotion back to the top flight, he said: "We got ragged in the third quarter so we need to sort out a few things there - which we will.

"I thought towards the end some of our more experienced guys – Lee (Keegan) and Aidan (O'Shea) – got on a lot of ball and just calmed it down to run out winners.

"Lots of stuff to be very happy with but there is stuff we need to stop doing, for sure.

"We got a right test from a very good team and it shows areas that we need to improve on, so I'm happy from that regard."

He also expressed satisfaction with the fact that there isn't a league final to worry about with the championship starting on Saturday week against Sligo.

The Clare game, played at close to championship pace in Ennis, was great preparation for that.

"We found out where our fitness is and everything else...we learned a lot from for sure," he added.
