Mayo customers urged to look at switching energy supplier

With supplier switching figures for electricity and gas customers continuing to improve after record lows in March and April of this year during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) is calling on all customers in Mayo to look at switching their energy supplier.

A new report shows a 40% increase for electricity customers and 20% increase for gas customers in April 2021 compared to April 2020.

Based on CRU data, the average customer can save between €300 - €400 if they switch supplier or renegotiate with their current provider. Active customers who switched supplier or renegotiated with their current supplier every year for the last four years could have saved €704 on gas, €1,097 on electricity or €1,696 on their dual fuel costs.

With recent price increases announced by many suppliers, the CRU has emphasised that customers should actively review their energy bills and look at offers that are available from other suppliers.

If a customer is out of contract with their supplier, renegotiating their current tariff or switching suppliers to get a better deal could help offset the recent price increases.

Customers can use one of the three CRU accredited switching websites, www.bonkers.ie, www.powertoswitch.ie or www.switcher.ie to compare offers and switch suppliers.
