Claremorris native elevated to senior counsel

Tributes have been paid to a barrister from south Mayo who has been promoted to senior counsel status at a circuit court sitting in the county town earlier today.

Elizabeth Maguire, a native of Claremorris, was recently one of four Mayo legal eagles who were elevated to senior counsel.

Speaking at a civil court sitting at An Sportlann, Mr. Diarmuid Connolly, B.L., said that Ms. Maguire was a thorough professional and would be a serious addition to the senior bar.

Mr. Connolly then quipped to Judge Raymond Groarke that Ms. Maguire could very well be sitting where he was one day.

On behalf of the Mayo Solicitors Bar Association, solicitor Mr. Tom Walsh said she had a wide range of practice behind her.

“She is courteous, kind to clients as well as the other side of the litigation and we wish her all the best in the future,” said Mr. Walsh.

Judge Groarke echoed the remarks of Mr. Walsh and Mr. Connolly and said she would be a great addition to the inner bar.

Ms. Maguire said it was a privilege to act alongside her colleagues and thanked them for their kind words.
