Mayo hit by Covid concerns ahead of Connacht SFC clash against Leitrim

by Aiden Henry

Reports are emerging tonight that the Mayo senior football squad is dealing with Covid concerns ahead of its Connaught SFC semi-final clash against Leitrim at Elverys MacHale Park in Castlebar on Sunday.

A spokesman for Mayo GAA has confirmed to The Connaught Telegraph that a statement on the matter will be made by the organisation tomorrow.

It is understood a number of squad members have been in isolation as a result of being in close contact with a person who tested positive for the virus.

No further information is available at this stage.

UPDATE: A statement issued by Mayo GAA on Friday morning (July 9) stated: "Mayo GAA are currently working with the HSE on a number of Covid-19 related queries amongst members of the county senior football panel.

"Mayo GAA are following HSE guidelines and our senior team are continuing their preparation for Sunday’s Connacht Championship game versus Leitrim."
