Newly appointed Garda Chief Superintendent to oversee Mayo

A new Garda Chief Superintendent has been appointed to the Longford/Roscommon Garda Division.

Raymond McMahon has taken up the role today following the retirement of Tony Healy from the position.

A native of Leitrim, he previously led the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau.

The Carrick-on-Shannon man has extensive experience of policing, having served in Sligo, Longford and the border area over the course of his career to date.

He will be responsibility for both the Longford/Roscommon Division - along with the Mayo Garda Division at this time.

The two areas are expected to be amalgamated in due course.
