Darren Coen faces battle to be fit for provincial final on July 25
Mayo attacker Darren Coen faces a battle against time to be fit for the Connaught SFC final meeting with Galway in Castlebar on Sunday, July 25 (1.30 p.m.)
He picked up a hamstring injury when scoring the final point of his 1-3 return before being substituted in today's penultimate round 24-point victory over Leitrim at Elverys MacHale Park.
Coen was named as a late replacement for Bryan Walsh ahead of the game and the Hollymount-Carramore ace turned in an impressive performance.
There are serious doubts over the fitness of Lee Keegan ahead of the July 25 decider after he dislocated his shoulder in a challenge match against Cavan ahead of the Leitrim encounter.
Jordan Flynn, a late replacement for Eoghan McLoughlin in the starting 15, incurred a head injury in the second half of today's clash and left the field of play.
But it's unlikely to rule him out of contention for the encounter with Galway.
Good news for Mayo is the return to fitness of Diarmuid O'Connor following the hamstring injury he picked up in the final National League match against Clare.
He was named among the substitutes and warmed up on the sideline on a number of occasions during today's game.
Further good news is that Jason Doherty and Brendan Harrison are continuing to make good process in their recoveries from their long-term injuries and their return to full fitness.
A number of players missing from action today are expected to return ahead of the Connaught final, including Robert Hennelly, Kevin McLoughlin and the aforementioned Eoghan McLoughlin and Bryan Walsh.
