An elected member of Mayo County Council is seeking to provide permanent outdoor eating pods in public areas in the county - starting with the Mall and Market Square in Castlebar.

Councillor Ger Deere said it is great to see the benches proving so popular at both locations after his motion to install such facilities was successful at a meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.

He explained: "Following on from the success of these facilities, I believe we need to look at more permanent food pods at both locations going forward.

"I will be working with the Mayo County Council and my colleague Alan Dillon TD in trying to secure funding for these projects."
