Warm tributes paid to much-loved Castlebar woman Beda Tobin on her passing

The death has occurred of Bridget (Beda) Tobin (née McCormick), The Oaks, Turlough Road, and formerly of The Mall, Castlebar.

A native of Laurence Hill, Derry City, she died peacefully at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar, in her 97th year.

News of her passing has evoked an immense sense of loss in the county town where she was held in such high regard.

Predeceased by her husband Richard and son Dr. Charles, she is deeply regretted by her sons Dr. Richard (Castlebar), John (New York), Dr. Leo (Turlough) and Paul (Castlebar), daughters Dr. Margaret Pierse (Tipperary), Anne (Castlebar), Patricia Adediran (Limerick), Dr. Carmel O 'Brien (Spiddal, Co. Galway), Joan Geraghty (Westport), Brid (Castlebar) and Dr. Sinead Austin (Belfast), her 27 grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Many warm tributes have been paid to her on the condolence page of the death notices site, RIP.ie.

Fr. Brendan Hoban, Columbans, Navan, said Beda was a great and beautiful lady who was wonderful for all the town of Castlebar.

"We owe her so much for the gift she was to us."

Other lovely tributes paid to her stated: "She was always happy and optimistic and full of life," and "Such a positive, good humoured and insightful lady. Always a pleasure and uplifting to meet."

A member of Castlebar Golf Club, of which she was a popular member for many years, described her as "a remarkable woman whom it was always a pleasure to have a chat with out at the golf course where she would have often just played a few holes after coming from Mulranny following a swim."

Remains will be reposing at the Coady Funeral Home tomorrow (Thursday) morning from 10 o' clock with removal at 11 a.m. to The Church of the Holy Rosary via Castle Street and The Mall for Requiem Mass at 11:30 a.m.

Interment takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
