Praise for outdoor dining experience on Mayo street closed to evening traffic

An elected member of Mayo County Council has praised all the hospitality businesses on Tucker Street, Castlebar, following the launch last night of their outdoor dining initiative.

It is expected to run weekly at evening time from Thursday to Sunday over the summer period.

Up to seven restaurants are involved, offering a wide range of dining choice.

Councillor Ger Deere said it created a beautiful outdoor dining experience as the street was closed, with diversions in place, to facilitate the experiment.

He stated: "I am delighted to see the positivity from everyone working together and working with Mayo County Council in getting this up and running and pushing it to see it through.

"There are plenty of other opportunities around the town to develop such outdoor dining facilities in a part-time way.

"But I really would like to see more permanent dining structures erected at the Mall and Market Square as soon as possible while we still have the summer."
