Appeal to remove glass bottles from beaches

AS people flock to Mayo's beaches, they are being urged to not leave glass bottles behind them.

The bottles pictured - many of them already broken - were picked up on Old Head beach yesterday (Monday).

They were shared on social media by Clean Coasts volunteer Mairead Staunton who appealed to the public: “This is an accident waiting to happen. Please, if you take glass containers to the beach then take them away with you too.

“The beach is a place where many people walk about in their bare feet. They shouldn’t be in danger of stepping on broken glass.”

The issue of dog fouling has also been highlighted in recent days by the Keep Our Beaches Clean group. They are appealing to pet owners to bag their poo and bring it away with them when leaving the beach.
