Temporary car park opened near Roonagh Pier to help address heavy traffic issues

A temporary car park has been opened near Roonagh Pier to cater for the surge of visitors taking ferry trips to and from Clare Island and Inishturk.

An arrangement was made with a local farmer by An Garda Siochana to help address traffic issues.

Roonagh Pier was one of the locations the gardaí advised the public to avoid last weekend due to existing car parks being at capacity.

Mayo County Council is coming under increasing pressure to address infrastructural deficiencies at a number of seaside locations - including Roonagh and Keem Bay.

Other spots where traffic problems have been identified are Old Head, Silver Strand and Carramore in Louisburgh.
