Wild Mayo Ultra endurance cycle takes place this weekend

On Saturday July 24, the Wild Mayo Ultra endurance cycle events start and finish in Westport.

The 300k event starts from 7 a.m. at the Mariner Hotel, Mill Street, Westport, each cyclist departs at three-minute intervals.

Their route will be via Newport, Furnace, Wild Nephin Drive to Keenan, Crossmolina, Ballycastle, Bellanaboy, Pulathomas, Barnatra, Bangor, Ballycroy, Mullraney, Corraun, Achill Sound, Atlantic Drive to Minaun Heights, Keel, and Keem Bay, with the final section straight back to Westport. Approximate finishing times from 7 p.m. to Sunday at 2 a.m.

Each cyclist will be followed by a support crew in a car with a flashing orange beacon and warning signage.

The 650k starts from 9 a.m. but takes a different route: Westport via Louisborgh, Killeen, Drummin, Ashleigh Falls, Leenane, Finny, Tourmakeady, Killawalia, Ballinrobe, Clonbur rd to Cong, Cross, Shrule, Irishtown, Ballyhanuis, Kilmovee, Carracastle, Bonniconlon, Ballina, Killala, Lacken, Ballycastle. Ballycastle, Bellanaboy, Pulathomas, Barnatra, Belmullet, Blacksod, Barnatra for the second time, Ballycroy, Mullraney, Corraun, Achill Sound, Atlantic Drive to Minaun Heights, Keel, Keem Bay with the final section straight back to Westport.

Approximate finishing times on Sunday at 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

There should be very little inconvenience to motorists but when passing the cyclists please allow 1.5m and give a friendly tout on the horn or a cheer out the window. The cyclist would appreciate it.
