Verge trimming to start on national secondary roads

VERGE trimming on national secondary routes will commence in Mayo on Tuesday morning next.

Trimming on regional roads is also underway in some areas, it was confirmed at a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District (MD) meeting.

An update was sought by cathaoirleach Councillor Neil Cruise on national roads in the area - N5, N26 and N58.

Senior engineer Conrad Harley confirmed that the MD, along with Castlebar and a small part of the Westport MD, have gone out to tender for hedge cutting on national primary and secondary routes across these areas.

The contractor is starting on Tuesday morning. A meeting will take place with them this week to agree a programme.

It is intended to start on the national secondary routes first, he said, noting how there has been phenomenal grass growth this year.

On regional roads, a contractor is currently in Ballinrobe and will be coming to Claremorris shortly. Another contractor will be starting then, taking on Swinford and Kilkelly areas, and the grass will be cut on the regional roads.
